I'll give some of the results from NB and/or Alberta. I still haven't raced yet personally, but there was some exciting action last night. The 5000 was great, Paul already described it in his journal so I won't go into too many details. Jean Claude's 5km splits were 2:03 (800), 2:40 (1000) and 4:03 (1500) which is pretty impressive. Geoff Kerr ran a great race for the bronze (14:32 or thereabouts), Genest just held him off. Geoff seemed to run a really smart race, it looked like anyone could get 2nd and 3rd until one or two laps to go. I saw him after the race and he seemed pretty happy to have put it together in such a big meet. Sandy Bain had a good kick to just outlean Adrian Lambert a bit further back in the pack. Chris Brannon (15:45) and Barry Britt (15:49) ran a great race too, they took turns leading and both ran good pb's and seemed really happy with the effort. The women's 5000 was also a done deal after the first 200m, for NB Jill Brennan ran a big pb of around 18:05 or so.
Kyle Killam qualified for the high jump final today, Yves Pellerin made the discus final. Yves Robichaud hurt his back earlier this week and unfortunately didn't make the hammer final. In the 800 Brophy got in arough heat, probably the toughest of the three, and they went out the slowest, so he had to finish top 2 since time wouldn't get him in. His splits were about 60/57, but Jean Carle and Scobie ran away with the heat. Dave Holm and Brian Roppelt both made the final quite handily. Diana Gruber made the long jump final, so did Kim Tse. Unfortunately Rachel Jaillet and Sara Miller didn't. Shannon and Heather from AB both made the final I think (Heather on placing and Shannon on time).
That's about all the results I can think of at the moment. The food here is still great, only one game of poker so far (I lost... but Adam from AB still owes me 5$). I was getting a little stir-crazy since I don't race til Thursday - it's hard being at a track meet 4 days before you race! A lot of us older kids from NB went out for dinner last night which was really nice, it was fun hanging out with everyone and it felt great to get away from the Games for an hour and relax (I put that for you Stewball) like I would for a normal race.
I did a good 4 X 200 this morning and it felt good, this has been my easiest week since December, so I'm starting to feel really fresh. The 1500 finals are tonight, I'd love to be in there, but at least I'll be really rested on Thursday afternoon for the Big Sticks. Tomorrow will be a light warm-up then racing Thursday.
I better get going - we have two girls high jumping in 25 minutes. I'll try to check in a bit later in the week.
PS: to answer 911's question, I _did_ play hockey back in the day, but I haven't been on the ice in over a year now. Playing for LHHS was good times but I'm glad that I decided to switch to track when I graduated high school.
